Law Enforcement
Police officers work on the front-line everyday to make our communities safe. This government is working to ensure that law enforcement have the tools and resources to do just that. We are strengthening our laws, investing in crime prevention and increasing police presence on our streets.
Investing in Canada's national police force
The RCMP maintains a strong and vital presence in all provinces and territories. RCMP officers help protect Canadian communities by investigating threats created by issues such as organized crime, terrorism and drugs.
Canada's new government announced close to $200 million to begin recruiting up to 1,000 RCMP officers and support personnel across the country, and to hire additional federal prosecutors. Funding will also go towards upgrading the RCMP National Training Academy (Depot) in Regina, Saskatchewan, to strengthen capacity to train more officers.

Police Officers Recruitment Fund
The Government of Canada has established a Police Officers Recruitment Fund for provinces and territories to participate in a national effort to recruit 2,500 police officers across the country, consistent with the high priority that the Government of Canada places on community safety. The purpose of the Fund is to support the efforts of provinces and territories in recruiting additional front-line police officers nationwide who can target local crimes and make communities safer.
